Purple Haze

Purple Haze is a painting that came together through layers of movement, color, and intuition. I built the surface by adding, scraping back, and reworking areas so that different moments could show through at once. The blues, violets, warm neutrals, and flashes of orange create a kind of shifting energy that feels both calm and alive. For me, the painting holds that in-between place where structure starts to loosen and something more emotional takes over.

About this item

When I was working on Purple Haze, I wasn’t trying to paint a specific image. I was following the conversation that happens as the painting develops—adding a mark, covering something up, bringing a color back, then waiting to see what wanted to happen next.
I’m drawn to that process of building and letting go. I like when a painting carries its own history, when you can sense the earlier decisions still living underneath the surface. In this piece, I wanted to hold onto both energy and softness—to let bold movement sit beside quieter areas, and to create a space that feels layered, open, and a little mysterious
