Sunburst

Sunburst is a dense, high-energy field of color where warm yellows, oranges, and reds collide with deep blues and violets. The surface feels active and layered, with marks that are applied, pushed, scraped, and partially erased.
A vertical passage of lighter paint runs through the center, acting like a moment of release or interruption within the intensity. Around it, color masses press against each other—some areas thick and opaque, others dragged thin—creating a sense of movement that never fully settles.
Rather than radiating outward in a traditional sense, the “burst” here feels contained and fractured, as if the energy is being held and redistributed across the surface.

About this item

I approached Sunburst as a way of working directly with intensity—color, pressure, and movement—without trying to resolve it into a fixed image.
The title suggests something radiant, but the painting resists that clarity. Instead of a clean expansion, the energy breaks, overlaps, and redirects. I built the surface through layering and interruption—putting paint down and then challenging it, scraping it back, or shifting its direction.
The vertical element emerged as a kind of anchor or disruption, depending on how you read it. It holds the painting together, but it also cuts through it, creating tension between control and release.
For me, this work is about staying inside that tension—letting the painting remain active, unresolved, and in motion.
